PewDiePie, Felix Kjellberg, Ryan Rottman created a film called "Minions" in 2015 and the movie was released in theaters on July 10, 2015. The film is based off of characters from the Despicable Me franchise and follows the adventures of Minions who want to follow their master. The movie grossed $1.16 billion worldwide and was nominated for 2 Academy Awards including Best Animated Feature at the 88th Academy Awards. It won several other awards including best directing for Chris Renaud at 59th BAFTA Awards in 2016 where it also won best editing for Kevin Cartier at 61st BAFTA Awards in 2016. It also won several children's choice awards, including best animated film at the 7th Kids' Choice Awards and later won the award for most popular feature film at the 2015 Kids' Choice Awards. The movie has been successful and has gained a following and is considered to be one of the highest grossing animated films of all time. The film won "Favorite Animated Movie" at the 59th British Academy Film Awards, "Best Animated Film" at the 9th Rome Film Festival, as well as numerous other awards. Minions, the fictional yellow creatures who have become an icon in the Despicable Me series. The Minions are also characters in their own right, meaning that they are able to be developed to a much greater extent than if they were simply supporting characters. Beloved by all ages, the Minions are incredibly endearing despite being unable to speak English. They are hard-wired to serve their masters whilst feigning stupidity, but when called upon by Gru, they are capable of doing incredible things in his honor. Originally shown in a one-minute film at the end of "Despicable Me" (2010), it is revealed that there is an entire island full of these creatures who live in a treehouse. Minions also appeared in their own film, "Minions" (2015), where they are recruited by Scarlet Overkill (Sandra Bullock) to find the newly-born Anti-Villain League through a series of misunderstandings. The characters appear throughout the Despicable Me franchise, including "Minions" (2015) and "Despicable Me 3" (2017). Through these appearances, it has been noted that Minions have different physical features from their animated counterparts. They have bright blue eyes and do not have freckles on their face as depicted in the film. Instead they have a slightly darker shade of yellow with a bit more white mixed in, giving them a more human appearance. In January 2014, Universal Studios and Illumination Entertainment announced a Minions spin-off movie. The film was animated by Illumination Mac Guff in Paris and directed by Pierre Coffin, the creator of the Minions. Chris Renaud worked as executive producer while writers Brian Lynch and Kyle Hunter wrote the script for the spin-off film. On May 21, the film was officially titled "Minions" with a scheduled release date of December 19, 2015. The release date was later shifted to July 10, 2015.
